Is WordPress Slow? Not if you…

What’s the matter? Is WordPress too slow for you? Is posting taking forever and a day? Well, you need to go to the WordPress Dashboard > Plugins section. Install the wp-cache plugin. It’s included with WordPress but not installed by default, so you have to click on a check box and click on install. After installing this plugin in particular, WordPress should display a noticable improvement in speed. If not, then your web hosting server is probably slow.

iPod Phone? humbug! Check out the ModBook!!!

Other World Computing, long a well-priced reseller of stuff for your mac that works right, like RAM and HD upgrades, etc… has treated me well many times when I ordered from them. Well, now they’re introducing something surprising. Surprising not just because of its form-factor and interface paradigm, but also because it may signal a new trend or even a return to the past. Long ago Apple had almost made the IBM move and through licensing out production of Macs to 3rd parties almost lost the hardware business to those companies. Well, at the same time, there have always been 3rd party modMacs sold. In particular touch-screen enabled iMacs for kiosk settings. Now there is something new on the horizon… Continue reading →

Dollar Coins (USD) Will They Succeed?

The US Mint is at it again. And they should be. Few things can be had for less than a dollar these days anyway. Why does the Mint want to switch us to dollar coins? Paper dollars are more costly to maintain in circulation, they wear out too fast. Coins last longer.

But what’s really holding back dollar coins? Banks and businesses! Drive-thru banks don’t usually want to give or receive coins unless you go through the commercial lane. Cash registers and vending machines do not accept dollar coins at this time. But this is exactly a pair of industries that should be pushing for this.

One practical use, is shopping carts. Retailers have had to begin sending out shopping cart “dudes” to round up the stray carts from parking lots more and more over the last decade. (Americans are fat for a reason.) So much so, that many large retailers have positions dedicated to cart round ups. It’s pathetic. Why are people so stinking lazy?

Well, in Belgium, retailers have genius system. (not only there, in much of Europe) Carts are chained together with a simple lock that requires a shopper to insert a 1 Euro coin. It’s not a fee. You can get your coin back when you return the cart and hitch the lock to an adjacent cart. Is a dollar enough to make someone take their cart back?

Zune Buzz? –>BuzzKill!!!

Poor Zune. Poor Microsoft. Well, not really. But seriously, where did the hype and buzz go? One day the usual MS shills were trying hard to crank up the volume, the next day it disappeared like the Statue of Liberty at the hands of David Copperfield…
